The Department

Begin of page section: Contents:

The Institute of Archeology is responsible for scientific research and teaching in the field of archeology, with a focus on classical and provincial Roman archeology, including the prehistoric and medieval archeology of the Eastern Alps. The subject of classical and provincial Roman archeology is the material legacy of the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean, that is, the Greek and Roman cultures, as well as their marginal cultures. The temporal boundaries can be outlined on the one hand with the Minoan and Mycenaean culture of Greece on the other hand, and the late and early Christian culture on the other.
